Summer Reading Club – THE LEAGUE OF SUPER READERS

These two super kids plan to SMASH summer reading at the library this year.

Ivan was the first kid entered in the library’s database of kid readers this past Sunday. Ezri was number two.

The library had a kickoff event and the kids wore their capes.

Some books Ivan is loving these days:

Shh! We have a Plan by Chris Haughton which had him spending all day exclaiming, “Hi, Birdie!” at intervals.
Little Owl Lost by the same author which Ezri has been reading to him.

Ivan the Terrier
by Catalanotto has made a resurgence after a months long break from reading it.

3,2,1 Liftoff: A Lego City Book is being read daily. Ivan likes especially the picture of the green lego alien outside the space station window and chanting, “five, four, three, two , one. KA-BOOM!”

Sam and Dave Dig a Hole
by Mac Barnett. I accidentally read “animal cookie” as “animal cracker.” Ivan corrected me. He has this one memorized. It has also entered the word “spectacular” into his active vocabulary.

Magnatower Morning

The kids got up before the parents on Saturday morning.
By the time I got up they had collaboratively erected this tower.
It has spikes to defend against zombie attack.
They dropped little stuffed animals into it from the top and pulled them out a door at the bottom.
When it fell it made a large CRASH!
Ivan was glad we would have the photos to show Eric when he got up.

C2E2

Ivan stayed near this large dragon Charizard cosplayer for quite awhile. He just wanted to bask in its glory and peer up at the dragon. The dragon allowed this infatuation kindly.

Ivan delighted in getting a fist bump from this costumed Baymax.

Umm, guys, something’s not quite right with this Dalek.

We got to see a lot of storm troopers and tie fighter pilots. Ezri was impressed by the female jedi Ahsoka Tano and a female Darth Maul. Here we stopped for a photo with Vader, because that’s what you do at C2E2.

Tot skater on the ice

Ivan wanted to take ice skating like his big sister.
His first tot skate class was a week ago. He learned to fall down and get back up.
He was on the ice without hands holding him up at points and moving in the direction he meant to go.
Big strides and we are so proud of his taking on a new activity with gusto!
