Screen Time

We limit screen time, but modern parenting has a lot of little screens from cell phones to tablets to ereaders.
And touch screen technology is super fascinating to the baby. Almost as great as buttons on toys (or anything other device) that make noises.

Here are two different trios of Blaus with little screens on the futon.

Pathetic, sick Ivan

The doctor says he had two ear infections, conjunctivitis, a fever, and was, well, generally unwell.
We’ve had a few long nights here at Blau house.
Even very ill, Ivan is a trooper. We are happy to say his smile has returned and his snot has receded.

I photographed him watching some “gro-gah.” It’s hard to say no to him when he is so clearly miserable and just keeps pointing at the screen saying “yo” and “grogah.” “Yo” means video and “grogah” means Grover or Elmo or Sesame Street.

Cookies!

chocochip
Because his sister has already discovered the wonders of treats, Ivan is introduced to them earlier.
Grandma Tam sent cookies. We ate a few yesterday.  Ivan really likes them.
They are what he asked to have for breakfast. I asked him, “What do you want for breakfast?” and he pointed enthusiastically to the big red container of home baked chocolate chip.
I decided we couldn’t have cookies for breakfast, so I introduced him to the wonders of Nutella instead.
Here’s a photo of baby’s first Nutella on toast.

It turned out to be the breakfast of his big sister’s first taste of Nutella as well.  She woke up and spied Ivan’s face and asked if she could have some of that chocolate.
I think Ivan is lucky to get Nutella at just 16 months when Ezri had to wait until a couple months shy of 4 years.

Ezri also agrees with Ivan that the cookies are good.  Thanks, Tam.

Enchanted Railroad

trainsivan

This is the holiday display of model trains at the arboretum.  It had three levels, dozens of trains, and a landscape complete with waterfall and drive-in movie theater.  Ivan loved watching the trains go by.

Everytime the train passes by Ivan raises his hands or points in excitement.

The giggles

This talking Dalek plush we received for Hanukkah gives Ivan the giggles.
He laughs with glee as it says, “Exterminate! Exterminate! You are an enemy of the Daleks. You must be destroyed.”

The tickle-and-fun Elmo that Ezri got at a garage sale makes him cry every time.
Elmo giggles and says, “that tickles.” Ivan cries and points at Elmo.

Ezri was quick to notice on the back of the package that we “need” to get the red Dalek and the other blue one that were pictured.  I had to tell her that “the other blue one” was a Tardis.

Gingerbread Project

While Ezri decorated a house with candies, Ivan played with graham crackers and pretzels. He stacked them, crumbled them, ate a bunch, but then began gleefully tossing them over his shoulder while giggling.

Cracker is one of his new words. It sounds like “Ka-kah”

This box fits perfectly – thank you!

Our first holiday gift arrives in the mail. My Aunt J is super on top of her holiday game.
Ivan has claimed the box for himself.
To anyone considering a gift for Ivan this year. He really digs boxes – especially empty ones.

He also loves climbing stairs, splashing in water, pointing at his belly button, petting our cats, and peek-a-boo.
