In reality, he has just fallen asleep and his head has rolled back.

Ivan at play
Like the generation before him, Ivan is enjoying the Happy Apple toy. During our play time, he would squirm and punch the toy whose chime would sound. Then he’d look at the toy with interest. Then he’d repeat the squirm until he managed to punch the toy again. He kept this up for quite awhile. He’s learning about cause and effect. Also, that he can make things happen. How cool is that?
The other big game we played I call “mama mobile.” Yes, this is me leaning over him and swaying my arms around while he tracks their motion mesmerized. Perhaps, I should get around to making him that actual mobile I had planned, but then there’s less opportunity for me to wave my arms around while staring at Ivan’s cuteness.
In the next photo I imagine him thinking, “I have the funniest feeling I’m being watched.”

This would be better if I hadn’t cut off the top of his head, but look a smile. It may just be gas, but I love his little toothless smile.
Ivan is starting to pay more attention to his surroundings and he tracks people with his eyes. He looks towards your voice and he likes listening to singing – even his big sister’s singing.

The Sheepskin

Ezri brought this out of her closet for Ivan because she thought he’d like it. He does.
Mr. Squooshy
Ivan digs grabbing this bear of his sister’s.
Luckily, it is one she doesn’t mind sharing.
*hiccup*
Hiccups make it hard to keep suckling on his pacifier.
Ivan hates hiccups for this reason.
I remember how his in utero hiccups felt like strange flutters.
Things Ivan likes:
Singing voices, the dishwasher’s noises, watching lights, his pacifier, being bounced on the yoga ball, riding in carriers that are attached to his parents
Things Ivan dislikes:
Hiccups, gas, having toys shoved in his face by his big sister who likes to share, wet diapers
Ivan is one-month-old
Here is Ivan with Monkey-monkey for scale.
Here Ivan asks with his mouth the question all small babies are wondering, “Does this monkey have a nipple anywhere?”
Ivan’s stats from his one-month well check at the pediatrician:
height: 21 3/4 inches
weight: 9 lbs 13 oz
head circumference: 37 1/2 cm
You may also note that he has infant acne and cradle cap. I assume this is because if he didn’t his cuteness would somehow upset the cosmic balance with too much cuteness contained in one small person.

In addition to the librarians shown here, other librarians and library staff have knitted for him, given him books & gifts, and made certain he had his own library card while he was still in newborn diapers.
