Impressionist Art Project

Ivan’s pictures of the poop monster out in the poop rain.
It is raining poop from the poop clouds that he tells me are gathering.
There is a green grinch surrounded by his poop suit and apparently poop lightning is a thing to watch out for.
I try to shield my kids from the current political climate but perhaps he is processing through art.
He loved this image so much he drew it twice and suggested this summer we could sell this art at a lemonade stand because people would want their own poop monster art.
Trace each member of your family’s hands and use them to make a spring picture like a flower, butterfly, bird etc.
I joked about tracing the cats’ paws. Then Ivan really wanted that to happen. It was NOT easy and involved kitty treats, but those eyes in the picture are the cats’ traced paws.
Here is our Blau Family caterpillar.
Ivan declares, “I love glitter glue. My imaginary friends don’t always like it, but they like it when I use it.”
Ellie cat is helping because glitter glue and cat fur are a great combo.
Ivan’s green bird with lots of X’s on it in the gallery window inspired by Mexican folk art. Signed by the artist.
Working with Mrs. K on Russian cathedral inspired palace art. Ivan’s needed to be silver and gold which are good palace colors. We learned Ivan the Terrible had a really pretty cathedral built. He was not very nice. But he did appreciate art that was built to glorify him.
Ivan says, “When I grow up I will have Perler beads in my house for my kid if I have a kid.”
He’s been working on his fine motor skills by placing the beads on teeny pegs.
Then they get ironed together into a flat shape.
In today’s project the blue beads represent R2D2, the orange are rebel pilots, the yellows are C3PO, purple beads represent Rey, and red is Han. Black are guards and imperial pilot. Brown beads are evil lords of the Sith. There are a lot of brown and black beads. Our heroes may be in trouble.
The art project was making clothes for a popsicle stick scarecrow. Ivan only wanted to add underwear and they needed to be green.
He was convinced to add a hat, mittens, shoes, and scarf. “But NO pants!” He asked me to draw a crow and then told me it looked like pigeon from Mo Willems’ books.
This is his underwear scarecrow.
He’s very proud and we have it on our front door to greet visitors.
