Ivan likes the idea of pie. He loves making cobbler and asks to make “apple cobbler pie” often. He does enjoy the mixing, but does not want to eat either pie or cobbler. He likes making it “for Ezri.”

Today we baked banana bread. Unlike his sister, he is not interested in licking the mixing implements clean of the sugary batter. He will eat as many pieces of the finished product as he is allowed.

For New Year’s Eve, Ivan went bowling in the morning. Then he was a “big kid” and laid his sleeping bag out in the room of big kids for half sleepover. He was treated to New Year’s sugar cookies made with wishes for the New Year and he ate the “E” in Hope and had a green-iced smiley face for happiness. He asked for a third cookie, but that was overly optimistic and he was denied. Never hurts to hope.
A good New Year’s Eve!
Ivan made a bee line for the Lion on the carousel.
He did not want to ride next to his sister who was on a “wild dog.” He wanted to ride the lion.
He loved the carousel and the holiday lights, but he really loved lemur feeding time. He was so cute up at the front that assorted adults stopped watching the lemurs to watch him bounce in excitement and giggles. That’s a lot of cute to trump lively lemurs.
There was a melt down when it was time to leave the tiger who was awake and pacing and looking mighty impressive. Ivan asked to get in with the tiger and cried when we left wailing, “No, I want TIGER!”
Ezri enjoyed the trip too and especially spending time with Meghan, her grown up friend. She and I were both impressed that the trees lit up pink and purple around the fountain. Ezri suggested that she would like her Rudolf to have a purple nose or maybe pink nose, but not red.

Here is trick-or-treating at Meghan’s house.
Standing in a muddy puddle with a friend. Ivan called the puddles “cuddles.” He also talked about how lobilly he was before he got his boots on straight. “Lobbily” is wobbly.
Wagon duo on the roll to trick-or-treat. They both had a great evil laugh that they were busting out as we rolled along. “Mwa-ha-ha-HA!”

Ivan tries a blue freezer pop. He’s not entirely sold on it. But it is a festive color.
Why would Ivan look at the camera when there’s a guy in a rabbit suit right next to him?
During the egg hunt portion of the park district Bunny Luau, Ivan had a similar moment when in a gym covered with plastic eggs he ran for the middle to look up in awe at the guy in the rabbit suit. Perhaps, no one had made clear to him that those plastic eggs had candy inside, but while all the other kids scrambled for eggs Ivan danced around the bunny.
Also, Ivan learned to do the chicken dance and did a credible job flapping his little wings.
