Ivan Speaks

i (apropos of nothing): Very very happy.
A: What makes you very happy?
i: YOU! You, Amanda.

Ivan has named his feet Eggy(left) and Owie(right).
We hear him talking to them after he goes to bed. Sometimes chanting “Eggy! Owie! Eggy! Owie!” I am guessing he is kicking his feet in the air in these moments but cannot say for certain.
One lunchtime he was beginning to put a foot on the table and I gave him a warning look. He said, “No, Eggy. You get down!” as if Eggy were acting without permission.
There are also times when Ivan steadfastly refuses to put on boots, but if you nicely ask Eggy and Owie if they want to get it in the boots they are happy to do so. Whatever gets us out the door in time.

A: What happened at Jenny’s today?
i: I played Miguel.
A: What else happened?
i: My big sister happened.
(Ezri arrives from preschool in the middle of his stay at Jenny’s for childcare.)

For a time Ivan was emitting a high pitched noise before getting his words out. Now he stutters the word “some.” In his Spanish class this means interactions with his teacher go like this:
Elizabeth: Yo quiero
i: some-some yo quiero
Elizabeth: agua
i: some-some aqua
(glass of water is passed)
i: some gracias
Since the agua in Spanish class comes from a plastic pitcher in other contexts where Ivan sees a plastic pitcher he points at it and smiles saying “AGUA!”
